On May 18 2017, MiM-CEMS Porgram and AlphaSights hosted a skill seminar titled AlphaSights’s China Market Strategy at Weilun Building.
CEMS is a strategic alliance of top business schools, leading multinational corporations, and not-for-profit organizations. Skill seminars are a unique part of CEMS training, providing students with direct access to corporations and training seminars in practical skills. They are essential to kick-starting an effective professional career and fundamental to adjusting easily to an international management environment.
Ms. SU Jian from AlphaSights Hong Kong Office introduced the Expert Network Service (ENS), including service profile, clientele, and industry standing. Students discussed ENS with Ms. SU, offering their thoughts. LE Jiming, MiM student from the class of 2016, shared his experience working with ENS on a photovoltaic power project during an internship with a management consulting firm. Teams can find public information such as industry reports and corporate reports, but the opportunity to talk directly with experts helps to expedite the review process, said LE Jiming, especially in the photovoltaic power industry.
AlphaSights Hong Kong Office Client Manager Matt Meyer sharing his views
AlphaSights Client Manager of Hong Kong office, Matt Meyer led the students in a case study of China market entry strategy. Divided into four groups, the students presented their findings and underwent peer review. The first group addressed AlphaSights strategic advantage in the Chinese market, holding that quality upmarket service and mid-top tier clientele should remain the focus. The second group stated that AlphaSights management of Chinese experts took Chinese culture into account. Group 3 addressed unique aspects of AlphaSights’s career development program, while Group 4 reenacted company-client interaction to highlight AlphaSights’s highly customized services. Matt Meyer offered his comments on the presentations and on students’ suggestions.
Matt went on to discuss career choice and development with the students. According to him, corporations look for talents with three type capacity: strong analytical skills, advanced management skills, and the capacity to close deals. These three factors should figure into career choice and personal development.
