From November 10th to 13th, XU Xin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) visited New York to discuss the cooperation of the dual degree program with Columbia University and promote the international development of Tsinghua SEM master's programs.
Professor XU Xin met with Professor Soulaymane Kachani, Associate Dean of Columbia University Teaching Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of the School of Engineering. They held in-depth discussions and reached consensus on deepening the cooperation of dual-degree programs and providing diverse support for students of dual-degree programs.
Tsinghua-Columbia Dual Master's Degree Program in Business Analytics was co-established by the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University. This program aims to develop interdisciplinary talent in the fields of management theory and cutting-edge information technology, with an emphasis on global vision and strong business analytical skills. Students who have successfully completed the program will receive a diploma and a master's degree in management from Tsinghua University and a Master of Science degree from Columbia University. With the improvement of Tsinghua’s internationalization development strategy, Tsinghua SEM will continue to broaden overseas cooperation, integrate with top universities in the world, attract more international talents, and become world-class Economics and Management school.
On 13th afternoon, the campus talk on Tsinghua-Columbia Dual Master's Degree Program in Business Analytics (TCMiBA) was held in Columbia University. Professor WANG Chun of Department of Management Science and Engineering delivered the overview of Tsinghua University and the master degree program of Tsinghua SEM. He also detailedly introduced TCMiBA in terms of program characteristics, degree and curriculum arrangement, internship and employment prospects, application qualifications and procedures and also shared his own learning experiences in both universities as alumni of the two sides. LI Xinyue, monitor of TCMiBA 2017 class shared her insights on program learning over the past few months on behalf of the class. She appreciated excellent teachers and peer resources, rich campus activities and unique cultural experiences at Tsinghua. “Study in the best university in China, it enhanced me to make progress together with my excellent peers and enjoy the colorful life every day. Believe me, you will never regret your choice!” She recommended. The atmosphere of the campus talk was lively and the Tsinghua SEM Delegation patiently answered all the questions raised by the audience at the scene on topics of application qualifications, project courses, etc.
The Tsinghua SEM Delegation specially visited nearly 20 students of TCMiBA 2016 and 2017 class during their stay at New York. Students shared their own learning experiences and expressed their views on cross-cultural adaptation, internship and employment application, and course study. After listening to the students' feedback, XU Xin made the remarks and encouraged them to be brave in “be yourself” and then win respect from others.KE Nan, one of the TCMiBA students of 2016 class said, “It is so kind of the teachers to visit us and give us helpful suggestions to overcome various difficulties, which let us feel the warmth of big family. ” ZHANG Yulei, TCMiBA student of 2017 class added, “This is the happiest day during the past three months in New York and we will continue to move forward with warmth and strength.”
The Tsinghua SEM Delegation visited the Chinese Consulate General in New York and had an in-depth exchange with Consul General WANG Wenhua and Education Office Counselor YANG Jun. The head of Chinese Consulate General in New York spoke highly of the internationalization strategy of Tsinghua University and the Tsinghua SEM's overseas program cooperation, and expressed their willingness to enhance the influence of Tsinghua SEM and build a bridge to deepen exchanges and cooperation in higher education between China and the United States.
On 13th evening, the Tsinghua University Alumni Association of Greater New York organized a welcome event for Tsinghua SEM delegation. Around 30 Tsinghua alumni participated in this event. Professor XU Xin briefly introduced the development of Tsinghua University SEM and Ms. JIAO Fangxing, Assistant Dean, Director of the Dean Office, Director of the Alumni Development Center introduced the current situation of the alumni development center and the master degree programs. The alumni association also shared the hard work and extraordinary contribution Tsinghua University Alumni Association of Greater New York has made in recent years, which aimed at promoting alumni communication and building the job-hunting platform.
