The CEMS Student Board held its second meeting of the year 2018 at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 12th to 16th September. Twenty-five representatives for each school within CEMS Global Alliance attended the meeting, among which Jannik Xu from Master in Management (Class of 2017) represented Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management.


During the 5-day meeting, the Student Board focused on refining and working on global projects for 2018/2019. As a new project, CEMS Women’s Network was announced to start after the meeting to advocate the role of gender equality and inclusion of women in business and beyond. The Student Board also updated the progress of  Responsible Leadership Ambassador Progamme, which introduced ambassadors to selected schools for driving long-term impact locally on all responsible leadership areas. CEMS Student Board Consulting Cup and CEMS Start-up Challenge were further discussed and prepared for their finals in November, Budapest. The Student Board aligned the efforts and following steps for CEMS Club Conference in Istanbul 2018.

Additionally, an interactive discussion session called “One Topic Per Meeting” was held on the topic of Hard Skills in the CEMS curriculum to improve CEMS students’ overall competencies.


In the Global Office session, members from the CEMS Global Office joined in Hong Kong meeting to talk about CEMS globalisation and future collaborations with the Student Board.


In Hong Kong, the Student Board had a company visit at Hyundai Hong Kong, a workshop session and networking reception with McKinsey & Company. These events enabled CEMS Student Board to promote interactions with CEMS Corporate Partners, and therefore to build a more collaborative CEMS community.



“It was an incredible meeting to bring diverse opinions together, discuss the future opportunities and challenges, implement global projects and make an impact for CEMS community.” Jannik Xu, CEMS Student Board Representative for Tsinghua University, reflected on the meeting.


Through the meeting in Hong Kong, the Student Board worked closely with Global Office to address a series of topics related to CEMS community. The Student Board meetings are a crucial moment of time when all team members can be at the same location to discuss and work together.

The CEMS Student Board consists of one representative from each of the member schools within the CEMS global alliance. It acts as the voice of students' opinions, implements and manages global projects with an impact on all CEMS student, and provides support and a platform for communication to the CEMS Clubs to help them achieve goals.


The MiM-CEMS program is the first of its kind in China. Students are expected to attain comprehensive knowledge in management through a set of intellectually challenging courses. Targeting at pre-experience undergraduates, the MiM-CEMS program strives to develop students’ analytical, general management and leadership skills, preparing them for managerial and leadership positions in corporations, government and non-profit organizations. Some of course are taught in English given the bilingual nature of the program.


In 2011, Tsinghua SEM joined CEMS - the Global Alliance in Management Education and became the first and the only business school with full CEMS membership in mainland China. Students who successfully complete the CEMS curriculum will receive a CEMS diploma. Qualified MiM students can also enroll in the Tsinghua SEM-HEC MiM Dual Degree Program.
